IFLA Guidelines for Library Services to Persons with Dyslexia – Revised and extended

The IFLA Guidelines for Library Services to Persons with Dyslexia – revised and extended* aim to offer guidance to IFLA professional units and all its members worldwide on developing and implementing library services to persons with dyslexia.
These new guidelines assist libraries in providing services to persons with dyslexia, with ideas, examples and suggestions on how to recognize library visitors with dyslexia, how to approach them and how to improve the library services.
They are intended as a tool for both trained and less experienced library staff who are responsible for serving persons with reading and learning difficulties.
They may also be helpful to other groups of users with reading difficulties.
These Guidelines contain a checklist (an infographic of useful topics), good practices from several public and specialized libraries from several countries, and a small knowledge base with a list of reliable and objective sources.
The intention is to provide a thorough and up-to-date compilation of what is known about library services to users with dyslexia and also to create a knowledge base containing background information and examples of best practice, also available through the IFLA LSN website.
The Guidelines have been developed by an international working group working under the joint responsibility of both the Library Services to People with Special Needs Section (LSN) and the Libraries Serving Persons with Print Disabilities Section (LPD).
The aim of the examples given is not to be complete but to inspire. You find the original list of examples in Appendix A in the Guidelines for Library Services to Persons with Dyslexia.
