For the position of Governing Board Member 2015-2017

Christine MackenzieWhat I believe in and my personal interests:

I believe in the power of libraries to build communities, encourage and support learning and promote reading. The integral role of libraries in society is making information available to everyone.

I believe that librarianship is an international profession that embraces collaboration, sharing, learning and innovation. Librarians know how to work together to achieve their goals and their vision of the future. Librarians love to share their experiences, their knowledge and their ideas.

I am most interested in working with colleagues to achieve our goals; to discover and invent new ways of being and doing; to creatively engage and encourage participation in thinking about our future and our roles.

Why I am standing and what I will do if I am elected:

The opportunity to serve on the Governing Board is a chance to create our future as librarians. I have previously served on the Governing Board (2011–13) and am most proud of participating in the development of the Trend Report, which is a landmark document that sets the scene for our future. I was also a member of the Finance Committee and believe that a strong and vibrant member association is dependent on good governance and prudent management.

My involvement in the Metropolitan Libraries Section since its inception in 2004 including a term as Chair;  and also as a past President of the Australian Library and Information Association, has provided me with a solid understanding of the needs and aspirations of members and the need to create connections between members and the Board.

If I am elected, my main focus will be on achieving a strong, viable and forward thinking association that has the interests of its members at its core.
