IFLA brings together colleagues from across the global library field, and you can be part of it. Wherever you are, if you have energy, time and skills to contribute, we encourage you to engage!

How does it work?

IFLA has a variety of councils, committees and special interest groups including our Governing Board. Some work at the strategic level while others focus on individual areas of the library and information services profession. What these have in common is that they are built around the work of committed and energetic volunteers. There’s sure to be a role that suits you!

We depend on our Members and Affiliates to identify and nominate candidates to many of the roles available – their insights into who can bring enthusiasm, professional knowledge and commitment are essential.

Who benefits?

The global library field as a whole. The activity of volunteers on IFLA committees contributes to a global movement to improve and enhance access to information for all.

But it is also a unique personal and professional experience to be an active part of IFLA. You will form connections with colleagues in many countries and on many continents, and will be involved in setting agendas and addressing issues at the global level. You’ll broaden your horizons and your professional network will extend and deepen, enhancing your career.

Beyond this, you’ll also take the knowledge you gain back to your own practice and existing networks, benefitting your workplace and local and regional associations.
