Hellenic Parliament Building

The 2019 IFLAPARL pre-conference will be held at the Hellenic Parliament, Athens, Greece, on the 22nd – 23rd August 2019. 

General information

Details of how to get to the Parliament Building at Syntagma Square are shown on the Google map here.  Please go to the Library entrance, which is on Vassilissis Sophias Avenue.  And please remember to bring your passport or ID card with you, as you will not be able to anter the Parliament building without it. 

The nearest metro station is Syntagma Station; take the Syntagma Square exit and climb up the stairs to the Hellenic Parliament, then go round the corner to the Library entrance at Vassilissis Sofias Avenue.

Please note that taking photographs in the Parliament building is NOT allowed, except in the Library offices and the Senate Hall.

Programme

The theme of the pre-conference will be Supporting Dialogue for Change.

The first day (Thursday, 22nd) will feature sessions featuring the work of the Greek Parliamentary Library & Archives, a tour of the Hellenic Parliament, and a series of 'Lightning Talks' from IFLAPARL members describing new deveopments and initiatives in their services.  The Hellenic Parliament will also be kindly hosting an official dinner for particpants in the evening.

While the second day (Friday, 23rd) will include the launch of the new Parliamentary Research & Library Service Ethics Checklist and updates from regional groups.  The main work of the day will be a series of workshops on the Guidelines for Parliamentary Libraries, the Influence of the Digital Society on Parliaments, and Change Management.  Particpants will be able to share their experience in these areas, hear from other IFLAPARL members, and feed into the process of updating IFLAPARL guidance on these topics.

Registration

Please arrive at the Parliament Building on Thursday, 22nd August at 08:30 to leave time to go through security (this will take up to 30 minutes) and collect your particpant's badge and conference materials at the registration desk.  The day's sessions will start promptly at 10:00.

On Friday, 23rd August, once again please aim to arrive back at the Parliament Building at 08:30 as sessions will start promptly at 09:00.  It is important that everyone arrives on time as we will be providing information about the day, including the arrangements for the workshops, as part of the welcome session at the start of the day.

If for any reason you arrive late please go to the Library entrance and go through security and wait there.  The security officers will let the Library know that you have arrived and staff will come and collect you.

Please note that the pre-conference is only open to those particpants who have pre-registered to attend.
