International Advocacy Programme (IAP) Update – October 2017

To mark a year since the launch of the International Advocacy Programme (IAP), IFLA publishes the new IAP Update — October 2017 showing how the library community worldwide continues advocating to get libraries included in National Development Plans.

Participants from more than 75 countries are carrying out awareness-raising and advocacy activities to show the important role libraries play in development, and to ensure libraries are included in the United Nations 2030 Agenda planning and implementation processes.

In addition to IAP participants, other countries have proactively joined as well, showing the growing interest of the library community in making this campaign even stronger!

The IAP Update – October 2017 features activities and plans carried out between May 2017 and the end of October 2017. The document is structured according to the four regions (Africa, Asia and Oceania, Europe, and Latin America and the Caribbean) where the six IFLA IAP Regional Workshops have taken place. A list of countries covered by this update can be found in the table of contents within the document.

Two previous editions of this IAP Update were published in February 2017 and May 2017, including activities carried out by participants from November 2016 to May 2017.

Background

The IFLA IAP is a capacity-building programme designed to promote and support the role libraries can play in the planning and implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Through the IAP, IFLA aims to establish an engaged community of advocates who will clearly articulate the significant opportunities to increase the profile and highlight the positive impact of library and information professionals in the achievement of the SDGs.
