I am honored to be nominated for a place on the Governing Board. I have been an active member of IFLA over the past 10 years, serving as a Member on the Standing Committee for Knowledge Management Section. I was Secretary of KM Section between 2006 and 2009. I contributed the Open Sessions of KM in the last years: as Member of Program Committee in Milan 2009 and San Juan 2011; as Chair of the Program Committee in Gothenburg 2010, in Helsinki 2012 and in Singapore 2013. Related to my roles I seek to build strong contacts across sections.
The centuries-old cultural role of libraries and librarians is equally necessary in the 21st century, providing intellectual growth, fresh ideas and widening opportunities both for work and learning. Libraries maintain and serve the cultural needs of local communities including ethnic minorities in this age of globalization. Multi faceted library networks, like IFLA guarantee access to assets, the accomplishment of cultural identity, tolerance and multiculturalism.
As Vice president of Association of Hungarian Librarians who is responsible for foreign affairs I will pay particular focus on the growth of the Building Strong Library Associations Programme and I would like to assist an outreach programme for advocacy and development of the profession. In consequence of my voluntary work in our association I have a great experience of networking and partnering.
I share IFLA's conviction that empowering libraries to enable their user communities to have equitable access to information. Related to many innovative ideas and results of IFLA people I would consider the IFLA repository as one of the important part of my contribution. I am committed to motto of Incoming President Sinikka Sipilä: Strong Libraries for Equal and Innovative Societies.
Furthermore, as Professor of Librarianship I would like to encourage the LIS studens to know and engage more to voluntary work of IFLA.
It will be a great honor and privilege, to be elected to serve on the IFLA Governing Board for the next the two years 2013-2015. I will contribute my energy, knowledge, experience of KM and passion for our profession to the work of the GB.
