Public libraries are a cornerstone in an enlightened society. We have a responsibility to develop libraries for all, on a local scale as well as on an international scale
Kent Skov Andreasen is Library director at Odense Central Public Library in Denmark.
I received my degree in librarianship in Copenhagen in 1984, and I am a chartered librarian.
I am an active member of IFLA and I have served for almost 8 years in IFLA SC for Public Libraries and I have taken part in every WLIC meeting and mid year meetings of the section in the period. I know the work from inside a section and I have experience with IFLA strategies and projects. I have also given presentations and facilitated sessions at the IFLA WLIC’s.
One of my aims is to give a stronger voice to the public libraries - both in GB and IFLA in general, and I will work to ensure that IFLA develops it’s involvement further in the public libraries promotes the public library as a space for free access to information, learning and cultural activities.
I am going for my second period in GB. The challenge here is to continue the work with the e-lending question and the effort to secure free access to e-resources on fair conditions for the libraries – and continue the renewal of IFLA as modern organization - using networking and all types of media in the work to include more members in the processes.
I have been a member of the Danish Library Association since college and I have been a part of the Committee for International Affairs for years. My key areas of interests are promotion and strategic development of public library services in general including the implementation of the new digital media and securing the free flow of information to and from libraries.
Besides the activities in the library organization, I am member of the Regional Television Board of Funen (TV2 Fyn) and I have served in the council for Short and Documentary films at The Danish Film Institute.
I am married with three children, and I live in the heart of Odense on the idyllic island of Funen.
